Thursday night -- it might as well be the start of the weekend. Vancouverites are just lazy enough that it probably will be for many, especially if Friday's going to be sunny and the kayak, mountain bike, snowboard or hiking shoes are calling. Start it off with a blast at So.Cial at Le Magasin, on Water Street in Gastown. From 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, So.Cial hosts wine tastings and gives out free appetizers, like arancini, crispy balls of cheesy rice, truffle oil, and saffron. Chef Romy Prasad used to be Executive Chef at Cincin, one of the city's top Italian restaurants, so he's got his ducks in a row and then some. Last night a piano player warbled to a loud and happy crowd, it being gorgeous out and everybody ready for a party. After the freebies, either stay upstairs for a fabulous dinner or head downstairs for raw oysters and other treats. Freshly shucked local oysters are only $1.25 apiece during happy hour, daily from 4 to 8 p.m.
