Hi, Antoinette, I think it's unlikely that they are the same person. If I hear from my friend Craig I will let you know. I believe this John Phelan is Canadian -- I think he went to Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Dear Kate,
thanks for your quick answer. Teh age of 55 is quiet right. My John used to work as engineer for oil platforms and he was living in Amsterdam. A big traveler! Hope it isn't him. I appreciate that you continue to investigate for this matter. Thanks again and greeting from North Germany.

Kate Zimmerman

HI, Antoinette,
The John Phelan mentioned in these letters was a friend of a friend of mine, but I never met him. I'm not sure he was Irish, and I don't think he would be much more than 55 years old. Does that describe your friend? I will try to reach my friend and get him in touch with you as I don't know anything further.

Antoinette Moore

Dear unknown, I am looking since longtime for John Phelan and I would appreciate if you could give me some more information if my John (irish) was your John too.I met him in Tobago. Thanks for any reaction.

Kate Zimmerman

Yes, he did remember him, and was sad to hear your news. I don't think Ron knew him very well, though.

Craig MacInnis

Yes, Art! I'm pretty good at names and places and dates. Sorry I flubbed the first try on that.

Did Ron remember John Phelan?

Kate Zimmerman

Vince says he was NOT the perpetrator of the the great Oxford Cloth conspiracy. Ron says it WAS Art, a "slightly chubby, curly haired guy who might have even been American." I don't think I ever met him. That's quite a memory you've got there! I guess you didn't have as much of the mari-hoochie as you seem to think you had. Yes, I think our plans are to be in France in May, so it's great to hear that's ideal!

Craig MacInnis

Kate - I guess I'm mixing up Ron's friends. Maybe the guy I'm thinking of was "Art"? Or maybe I should just quit while I'm ahead and admit that the '70s are one big fog bank :)

Anyway, anywhere in the south of France is incroyable. Go in May.

Kate Zimmerman

Hmm -- I will ask him, but it seems doubtful. He's a very smart guy, now CEO of the Freedom of Information and privacy Association, but also quite an athlete. Dressing up isn't really his style. I will ask him, pronto, though!

Craig MacInnis

Kate - I met Vince back in the late '70s. I think. Was he the guy who would have had a virtual walk-in closet of fresh, Oxford cloth shirts? This, at a time, when most of us would happily spray Ban aerosol on our dirty James Gang T-shirts and bounce off to class like Pepe Le Pew?:)
